Give him weak chamomile tea. Put some warm water in a 4 oz.bottle & dip the teabag in just enough to color the water. Chamomile is a natural bad tummy remedy & relaxer. It worked like a charm on my oldest grandkid.
I too had a colicky baby so I feel your pain!!! Try simethicone infant drops (first ask your baby’s doc), they relieve gas pressure and seems to work for a while. But for my son when all else failed we would drive around in the car and he would go right to sleep! talk to your doc if u use formula…you may need a different one.
I used to put my babies in the car and go for a drive (I have three kids). My mother told me that is what she used to do when I was a baby, too.
Something weird that worked with my son (sometimes) was white noise… turning the TV to a “snow” channel, running a vacuum or blowdryer (not near his ears, though), running a dishwasher. For whatever reason, it was soothing.
My son was particularly bad and I was often at my wits’ end, so I really feel for you. Sometimes there really is nothing you can do. As long as your baby is fed, clean, not sick/feverish, and there isn’t anything poking or hurting (like a diaper pin), sometimes all you can do is put him in his crib and let him cry while you give yourself a time-out.
A screaming baby is enough to drive anyone batty; I used to have to stand on the porch with the front door shut for 10-15 minutes and breathe deep… It’s very nerve-wracking sometimes. The more stressed you get, though, the more your baby feeds off of your anxiety, and this may actually cause him to cry more! So make sure you give yourself breaks. Nothing is going to happen to him if he’s safely in his crib for 10 minutes while you’re outside gathering your wits.
Here’s some suggestions from a website (both of my suggestions are actually on the list):
*carry the baby in a front sling or back pack
*wrap him or her snugly in a blanket (this is called swaddling)
*keep the baby moving in a baby swing
*place him or her near continuous noise or vibrations from household appliances like the dishwasher, vacuum cleaner or washer-dryer
*take him or her for a car ride or a walk outside
*give him or her a dummy [pacifier] to suck on
*give him or her tummy or back rubs
*take a shower together – the warm water may be comforting
I agree w/dodgergrammy. Chamomile worked wonders with my kids. It causes them to burp as well as settles a upset tummy. I even take it when I get the flu/cold cause it soothes my tummy (mix it with lemon and honey when w/flu/cold. Lemon clears the sinus and honey coats the throat)
Talk with the Dr about changing his formula. How are his bowel movements.
Nothing worked for me. I tried everything. The only thing that helped slightly was Gentle Natural’s Tummy Soother.
Other than that, my son had colic BAD fr 3 weeks of age until 12 weeks. I was miserable and depressed and thought it would never end.
He is 7 months now, and a delightful happy baby!
Hang in there, it’ll pass!
