Is it safe for my baby to eat baby wipes?
☼Earthbound Misfit☼ asked:
I rubbed the child's love of the son of 8 months. I can 't change it without giving it one or cries. It tries to suck the stuff from it and chew on it. My boyfriend? concerned that it 's not safe. I 'm. because they think? wouldn 't'. They're made for children. What do you think?

I think you should try a clean washcloth soaked in water.

Are you crazy?

I am sure they are “safe”, but i wouldn’t let him. He might bite off a piece and joke.
February 2nd, 2009 at 4:48 am
I would go with the obvious answer and say…NO!
February 5th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
There are chemicals in baby wipes and I would consider that dangerous.
If he insists on chewing a wet clothe get him a package of baby wash clothes and wet one at a time. My kids loved chewing on a wet wash clothe. Make sure you separate the ones you wash him with and the ones he chews on.

dah! is it food? give him a toy or something else
February 6th, 2009 at 2:34 am
NO IT IS NOT SAFE. ALTHOUGH THEY BE NON TOXIC.
February 8th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
ARE YOU NUTS HOW CAN YOU ALLOW THAT
there os always a caution note on the wipes pack cant you read it OR MAY BE THE BABY IS NOT YOUR OWN CHILD!! I SUSPECT
February 11th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
It is absoloutely not safe to suck on. First, he could swallow pieces of the wipe and choke. Second, have you noticed that a wipe suds? Would you suck on it? Probably not so dont let your baby.
February 13th, 2009 at 8:58 am
yeh i don’t think its a good idea because alot of bum wipes have alchole in them which isn’t a good thing for a child lol. do what the first answer said and get a little wash cloth with water on it and let him suck and chew that. he’s oviously starting teething hey?? lol.
February 14th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
If you seriously have to ask this, then you shouldn’t be a mother.
Use something else and if he still cries he’ll have to get over it because it is bad for him.
The baby wipes have antibacterial stuff in it that is meant for the skin ONLY. Please read the container.

I think you may wish to reconsider your suitabiity as a parent.
February 14th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
I think the soap in it could give the baby loose stool or diarrhea
February 15th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
definitely try the wet washcloth idea.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
So much for you winning mother of the year. If you read the box I am sure it says that its not for internal use. Take a damp washcloth (clean it first) and let the baby suck on that instead.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
I would go with a washcloth. It won’t rip off if he sucks on it to hard.
February 20th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Not safe ~ give him a clean, damp washcloth to suck on while you are changing him. They are made to clean the poo & pee off of babies butts, not for consumption.
February 22nd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Huh? I dont think it would hurt him, but that’s really not what they are for! I would try to get him out of that habit. It may not hurt him, but it might not be the best thing for him everytime!
February 24th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
I think yu should try sucking the stuff out of them and then chewing on a few and see what happens to you. I am sure somewhere on the container of wipes it probably or should say not for human consumption….Of course it is not alright for your baby to eat baby wipes, true they are made for babies, but they are also made with soaps and stuff that could make the baby ill….

Maybe your BF should be raising the baby….I also read your forum and you want your baby smarter…reading to him—–GO to the Library and check out a book called…”My Mom’s an Idiot” and read that to him while he’s munching down those wipes.

my daughter has been doing that since about 8 months also and she is now 18 months and she doesnt have any probelms.. just make sure that he doesnt rip a piece off
March 4th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
I do not see where it would hurt the baby but I do not think I would agree with letting him do it …..I would do and have done the wash cloth thing…..and a response to your 6Th answer…..DUH to you is a toy FOOD
March 8th, 2009 at 6:02 am
Of course not; they are not safe. They are made of chemcials that should not be used on your skin even less be allowed in a baby’s mouth. Just because they are made for baby use does not mean that they are safe for babies or anyone else. This is one of the big problems with the chemical and cosmetics industry, along with the food industry. All three of these industries are working together to help poison us to death, and we don’t know it, or even believe it. They are allowed to sell products that they know are not good for anyone because of the load of unknown chemicals in their products. There are only two causes of diseases, Toxins and Parasites. And, most chemcials are toxic to the human body and other living things. It sounds like your baby has developed a bad and dangerous habit that you need to have it to break, immediately. See the link below for the book, “The Cure For All Diseases,” by Dr. Hulda R. Clark, Ph.D.,ND.

My son is 2. If I had let him put everything he wanted into his mouth he would have ended up in A&E! Get used to saying “No” now – you’ll have to say it thousands of times over the next few years. Baby wipes (and indeed all cosmetic products whether for babies or not) are full of chemicals. Would you let him drink baby shampoo?!
March 12th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Well, I all natural, sensitive skin baby wipes, for the reason you said, my son loves to chew on them.
Try finding a wipe that’s for sensitive skin that is as close to all natural as you can get, and that will be a little safer, but I know a TON of babies who liked to chew on wipes who never got sick from it, I’m just paranoid so I got the natural kind.
If you want to put your boyfriend’s mind at easy, just buy some baby wash cloths and wet one of those and give to your son when you change him
March 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
It may not be best for your baby, try a wet paper towel instead.
You have conditioned him to want the wipe, now you should uncondition him. Just stop giving him the wipe, sure he will cry, but if you are constant and start giving him other things, singing, playing, or making the diaper changing a bonding experience it will go away faster than you would have imagined.
Diaper rash cream is made for babies too, I imagine you don’t allow him to ingest that.
March 15th, 2009 at 1:38 am
I would try to substitute that with a toy or a wet washcloth. The wipe isn’t just wet with water, it is chemicals – made for their skin, not their mouths. I just looked at a Pampers wipes container and it didn’t say anything about the dangers of ingestion but it doesn’t say that it is non-toxic either. It just isn’t worth the risk to me.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:37 am
No, baby wipes are not safe for infants or anyone to suck on and or chew on. Here is a link for you to look at. I like the first person who said to give the baby a clean wash cloth with water
March 19th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
How can so many people be so rude. she said he holds one while she changes him.
March 22nd, 2009 at 5:21 am
choose wipes that are water based. maybe it’s ok. just to be sure though, ask your pedia.
March 22nd, 2009 at 5:33 am
Hmm…I wouldn’t let him eat one, personally. Can you take one out of the package early in the morning and let it dry out, maybe? I don’t think giving him a dry baby wipe would hurt him. Just make sure he doesn’t chew pieces of it off and choke!
March 25th, 2009 at 2:34 am
Maybe the baby is curious about the wipes because you are constantly using it on him. here’s an idea maybe you can buy plain cloths and keep them the same place where you keep the wet wipes and when your changing him and he cries for one just give him the plain one and when your done changing him act like it’s no good anymore and throw it away. Good luck.
