CandiiPoppy asked:
My hamster gave birth to the 2 days ago and the cage that was his original alone is now filled with his children and 7. We didn 't know that she was pregnant when we bought it, so they were getting a larger cage. Be sure to enter the children from the old and the new cage? Help

Yes but you have to make sure NOT to touch them with your hands. Use a clean towel and put the mother in the tank first. Then transfer the babies and make sure to let her move them to where she wants them. If it looks like she’s rejecting them please see a vet and make sure she doesn’t start cannibalizing them.

it depends on how old they are if they are more then ten days then your fine but otherwise dont touch them the mother will eat them, but if its absolutely nesesary i recomend taking them out with a glove and the fluff under and around them. I had a similar problem when when my female made her nest at the top of her lookout tower and the babies kept falling. I picked them up with gloves i rubbed on the mom to make sure they didnt get my scent. I think you will be fine:P

First of all your baby hamsters can’t stay with each other or their mother after four weeks of age because they’ll breed. Secondly after five to six weeks they all have to be in their own individual cage if you can’t get rid of them by then. If they are dwarf hamster the girls can all stay together and so can the boys. If they are Syrian (or ‘teddy bear’) hamsters they must be alone or when they are older they will fight to the death. Do not otuch the babies until they are two weeks old or the mother might eat them. After that you can move them to a bigger cage if you like.

I wouldn’t recommend if for at least two weeks. Baby hamsters are so fragile even the slightest accident can kill them. On top of that the mother is very protective and perceptive and if you change the way her babies are she’ll be mad and may even eat the babies that have been altered.
