im leading home my newborn in a few days but since the last time I obscure my house that my cats have brought fleas back into the house. I need a sense that? safe for infants and does not leave a residue.
10 Answers & Suggestion to “what is a baby safe way to de-flea a home?”
let someone babysit for the day while you bomb the hell out of the house with insecticides.
wash any linens, like curtains, rags, or other cloths that may have picked up the poisons, or worse: picked up the fleas.
let it air out overnight and it should be safe to bring the baby back in.
I’m glad you’re unwilling to expose your baby to that stuff. Put Frontline for cats on them and keep them indoors. Your cats will not bring pests and disease into your house ir you keep them inside. I know, kitty litters are a pain, but not so bad as the harm done to the cat, the environment, especially our song birds, and ourselves. By the way, children who are exposed to cats are less likely to have asthma and allergies. Here is a site for natural flea control:
All I can think of is asking an exterminator or a veterinarian. Either one of them would have had experience with this exact situation. You might want to consider flea collars or regular flea treatments for your cats, too, so that the problem doesn’t continue. I’d say consider keeping them inside so they can’t get more fleas, but I’ve had the experience of trying to get a cat that’s used to going outside to stay in, and it can get ugly. Congratulations on the baby!
Best thing for you to do is get some good flea treatment for your cats. There are excellent ones available at your vet’s these days, that not only kill live fleas, but flea eggs, so that very quickly the problem is over for you, and your pets.
There are also good products that you can sprinkle on your carpeting, and then vacuum back up. since your baby is a newborn, you aren’t going to be putting it on the floor, so the areas you treat are well away from where you keep baby.
In future, you can simply make prevention your main aim, and, again, your vet will make that possible.
All you need is table salt. Sprinkle it on all fabric surfaces like carpet, sofa, bed. Let sit for 8-24 hours then vacuum. The fleas eat the salt, get dehydrated, and die. Also use Advantage or Frontline on your cats. You may need to repeat the salt in a week when the flea eggs that are left behind hatch but that should be the end of it. Also, sprinkle your yard with salt to kill the fleas out there then repeat every few months to keep your yard flea free.
