She shouldn’t be teething at ten weeks, so I’d stop the teething gel. She’s probably colicky, like the dr. said, and she just isn’t responding to the drops. This must be really frustrating for you. I always held my son in front of me, belly down on my arm and rocked back and forth when he was colicky, bouncing up and down slightly. Hope this helps…

if you’re breastfeeding she might be having a reaction to something that you’re eating you might ask Dr about poss allergies- and if you’re using formula you might ask the pediatrician if that might be the cause of the colic and maybe switch to another brand.

All kids are different. It sounds perfectly normal, so just get on with being a good parent, and stop worrying. It will pass.

I understand what your going through (my daughter is 3 months) and she is very similar (hyperactive when not crying, trying to talk, smiling, staying up most of the day trying to stand). Have you thought of everything that it could cause it (with my first daughter I learn that she was lactose intolerant and that the formula was causing her pain).

-Is it the formula?(check that one after you do the others)

-Are you sure that she has burped out all the gas in her system? My current child sometimes does like 3 small burps then 20 minutes later a huge one

-Does she like to be held a certain way? Maybe she just wants to sit upright and be able to see her surroundings. Or be laid near someone.

-Or maybe she just sleepy and is fighting it? Sometimes I just put her in the crib and after about 5 minutes she is out like a light.

Are you breastfeeding her? If not maybe she’s having issues with her formula. Sometimes it’s hard on babies tummies and causes irritability. My son teethed early, so it’s a possibility… but I wouldn’t medicate her with the teething gel. Get the hyland’s homeopathic teething tablets and follow the instructions on the bottle. And they also make colic tablets which I hear work wonders. It’s worth a shot! Maybe you should try baby-wearing. A lot of high-needs babies love to be held in the slings (most babies do! it’s good for them)… and are calm and relaxed and fall asleep in them. I loved my Moby Wrap. It was soooo worth the money!

    Hope this helps.

I know that paragoric drops are not used any more , but I worked fro a dr when I had my son, he is 10 now, and he gave me some, and 1 itty bitty rub on the gums, relieved his pain so we both could sleep for a couple of hours. If you can get accedd to this, it is priceless!!! Use it VERY CAREFULLY !!

Some babies just require more physical contact to relax. I agree with blonde_mama. Buy a baby carrier. My daughter was similar to yours. It was a life saver! I had a Moby wrap too. I also had a Bjorn but didn’t like it as much because it was uncomfortable to wear. My daughter spent several hours a day in it and I was able to attend to other things while she rode along (and slept a lot of the time!). She was so much happier and I was so much happier. Plus a big benefit is that it’s good for their development too. So I would try that.

Our son was the same way your daughter is. We bought the Hyland Colic tablets which seemed to help. And it did help when we walked around with him in the native baby carrier sling my wife bought. He loved that thing. It could also be teething but I would just give him a cool rag after it’s been wetted down and frozen a bit in the freezer to chew on rather than medicating at that young. Best wishes!

My son is now 5 months and at 4 weeks he started with colicky symptoms. The ONLY thing that works for him is Little Tummys Gas Relief Drops. I can only find them at Walgreens. The drops break up the gas bubbles in his belly and help get his farts out (along with “bicycle exercises” I do with his legs). Definitely try this, I still use it. Especially at bedtime, it helps my little one sleep longer bc he no longer wakes up in the middle of the night in pain.

All babies are different. I have 4 and they are all unique. I had one that I would have to tip upside down after he nursed or he would projectile vomit. The tipping got the air bubble up. I also bent his knees to his chest and gently rocked him back and forth. It helped with gas. He had reflux.

Sit on the edge of the bed and hold your baby like you would nurse her. Bounce a little and let the springs help you. I had to do this to get one to sleep and stop crying often. He just liked to stay moving and hasn’t stopped.

Make a log of what she how much she eats if formula fed or when she nurses and how long if breastfed. You may see a pattern. La Leche League is great if you need advice about nursing and it’s FREE.

Music is great. I have one who likes classical and another I sung You are my sunshine to and had to rock back and forth.

It’s a hit or miss thing. Just keep your doctor informed and remember that they can only talk to you by crying. You have to keep trying until you get it right. Relax and it will all work out.

My son is 6 months old, and he has always been very active and alert, kicking around a lot and waving his arms all the time. There’s nothing wrong with that.

My 4 month old son had the same problem. Then my pediatrician changed his formula from Similac Isomil Advance to Similac Advance and now he is on Similac Alimentum. It is a predigested formula that is easy on babys tummy. I would ask your ped. about that option. Maybe she has a hard time digesting the large proteins of the milk. But just so you do know the Alimentum is about double the price of the Advance and there is no generic form. You also might want to try to swaddle her in a blanket. My son hated it but most babies love it. Target sells them for about $15. Good luck

Sounds collicky. Don’t give her the teething drops. Have you heard her pass gas or poop? Gas drops may work. Also to help with colic try this:

Get a medium birthing ball and lay a bath towel over the top. Keeping the ball balanced, lay the baby on the towel belly down. She may fuss at first. Rock her back and forth slowly developing a rhythm, head to foot. Do this for at least 4-5 minutes until she doses off or calms down. If it doesn’t work, at least you tried. Just try to keep your patience. Good Luck!

I would try gas drops and burping her a lot, it seems like she might have gas more than colic. The problem with colic is that doctors always say that when they don’t know what it is. My son was (and is) in CONSTANT motion, and he is 9 months and his arms and legs flail around now as much as they did when he was 2 weeks old, so I wouldn’t attribute that to anything other than an active baby.

My 3rd was crying a lot and after many doctors visits we learned that she had only one kidney and had an adult size UTI at 2 months old. Then by 7 months old it was found that she had acid reflux dis. After taking care of those problems with great doctors in St. Louis, MO she is now 4 and doing great. Check for 2 healthy kidneys before it is to late and damage is done. I hope every thing works out, good luck

Is she bottle fed? It sounds like a dairy/casein intolerance which is common in babies. The milk is upsetting her tummy.
Try changing formula to soy based one or a specialist ‘allergy’ formula but some have a strong taste.
If you’re feeding her yourself – breast fed then look at your diet. If you are eating loads of cheese, cows milk then it goes through to her in the milk. Try reducing your dairy consumption for a while to see improvement in her sleep and tummy cramps. The dairy/casein proteins are causing gas.
Babies have very fragile digestive systems!
Hope that helps you and your litle girl a little.

If its colic try colief, a very small bottle from the chemist but very effective. Also try changing baby’s milk, it helped with my little boy. He did nothing but scream in agony until i did this.

sounds just like my little girl – never stops kicking waving arms and babbling – she’s 7 months old now and super alert. Very tiring though isn’t it?

  21. Helyer Says:

My little boy was very active before 10wks and is still going, now 6.5 months. Sounds abit like colic. You could try some cool boiled water, or peppermint tea (not too strong). Your baby should be old enough now for calpol for the pain. If you don’t like the colouring in it ask your pharmacist for something colour free or Sainsburys do there own one which is colour and sugar free. Maybe go and learn some baby massage as there are some techniques which are good for wind etc.
